MASTER OF COMPARATIVE LAWS (MCL)

The MCL programme has been running since 1986 and since its introduction, more than 1000 students have graduated with MCL. This programme has attracted many International students from the following countries:

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

  • Ph.D (Law) programme
    1. Applicants must have a basic degree in Law or Shari’ah.
    2. Applicants must obtain at least a minimum CGPA of 3.50 or equivalent for Master’s degree in Law or Shari’ah.
    3. Applicants with Law degree with CGPA 3.00 ≥ 3.50 with sufficient publication in reputable journal / publisher and working experience in related legal field.
    4. Applicants should have publications in the related field in reputable journal with reputable publisher.
    5. To attach the research proposal together with application form.

 

  • Master of Comparative Laws (MCL) programme [For MCL (By Research)]
    1. Applicants who have obtained minimum CGPA of 3.50 or 1st Class (Honours) or equivalent for Bachelor degree in Law or Shari’ah
    2. Applicants who have obtained a Bachelor degree in Islamic Studies must satisfy the following criteria:
      1. The undergraduate program must be comprised of at least 50% of Shari’ah courses;
      2. The Bachelor program must consist of Shari’ah core courses, namely Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh; and
      3. The applicants must have obtained an overall percentage of at least 70%.
    3. Applicants should have publication in the related field in reputable journal with reputable publisher.
    4. Applicants with Law or Shari’ah degree with CGPA 3.25 ≥ 3.50 with sufficient publication in reputable journal / publisher and working experience in related legal field may be considered.
    5. To attach the research proposal together with the application form.

 

  • Master of Comparative Laws (By Coursework) and (Coursework & Research)
    1. Applicants who have obtained minimum CGPA of 3.0 or 1st Class (Honours) or equivalent for Bachelor degree in Law or Shari’ah.
    2. Applicants who have obtained a Bachelor degree in Islamic Studies must satisfy the following criteria:
      1. The undergraduate program must be comprised of at least 50% of Shari’ah courses;
      2. The Bachelor program must consist of Shari’ah core courses, namely Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh; and
      3. The applicants must have obtained an overall percentage of at least 70%.
    3. Applicants with Law or Shari’ah degree with CGPA 2.8 ≥ 3.0 and sufficient working experience of at least 3 years in related legal field may be considered.

GRADING SYSTEM

INTRODUCTION TO MALAYSIAN CIVIL LAW (LAW6830)

Applicable to those who have graduated bachelor in law or shari’ah or Islamic studies other than from local University in Malaysia

Non-examinable but shall be graded based on pass/fail grade.

 

INTRODUCTION TO SHARI’AH LAW (SHA6840)

Applicable to those who have not undertake any shari’ah courses during undergraduate level

Non-examinable but shall be graded based on pass/fail grade.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT COURSES

The courses will be imposed by the Kulliyyah on case by case basis. The courses are non-credited but shall be assessed based on pass/fail.
