IIUM IMPLEMENT INCLUSIVE POLICY OF OKU FOR NEW STUDENTS

Gombak - - A total of 321 local students and 302 international students of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) for the 2018/2019 intake attended the Bai'ah  or the new student pledge ceremony at the Main Hall of the Cultural Center IIUM Gombak Campus here today.

IIUM launched the inclusive policy in November last year. This policy will be in practice with this intake, which will make IIUM one of the disabled-friendly universities. IIUM will provide special needs reqiremebts for all categories of OKU. It is not just for the students but for the staff as well.

This means that all activities and programs organised by the University, students and OKU staff will be able to participate.

For this intake, there are three new students categorised as People with Disabilities (UKO). They are, Ahmad Danial Mohd Sani (Fully Visible Blindness), a Diploma holder in Tahfiz from Darul Quran, Ahmad Hazmi Johari (Hearing and Speech Disability) and Nurrulaini Ahmad (Low-Physical-Disabled).

IIUM also a Unit that takes care of their affairs called Disabled People's Services Unit under the Deputy Rector's Office (Student Development and Community Network) led by Prof. Dr Ruzita Mohd Amin.

At present, there are 326 females and 297 males pursuing their Bachelor's Degree in respective fields. For this intake, all new students are from IIUM Foundation Center,  admission from the Darul Quran program.

The Bai'ah is the highlight of the event and is the closing of the Ta'aruf week for the new students. This indicates that they are now officially students of IIUM.

Throughout the Ta'aruf Week, various activities are carried out and among them are the Kulliyyah-related session, introductory session on the functions of each department in the University and a briefing session from Student Affairs.
