GOMBAK, 4 August 2020: The IIUM Rector’s Strategic Tour 2020 continues with the visit to Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENMS) today urging the Kulliyyah to be the leading faculty in economic function rooted to stay relevant in the industry.

Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak had advised KENMS to perform well in academic and administrative functions to gain recognition from the community outside.

“We must know the economic paradigm that we are looking at for the changes are necessary as time goes on so that we can redefine the new plan according to the current situation,” the Rector said.

This year the tour is slightly different from that of last year whereby this year the university focuses on advocating and presenting IIUM’s projects for the past 24 months globally, according to the Rector.

The Rector spoke of the sustainable development module that will end in 2030, hence he reminded that IIUM has only 10 years left to fulfil what need to be done. He later came out with the ‘PEST’ factors which resulted in the well-being economics including physically, emotionally, spiritually and truth-bound in humanising the economics.

“The Kulliyyah needs to look for ideas on flattening the economic curve and create a new model that is relevant and of Islamic concern. They can plan what is possible for the next six months to come out with a new roadmap,” he added.

Earlier, the Dean of KENMS, Prof. Dr. Hassanudden Abd Aziz, presented the Kulliyyah’s roadmap of 2020-2021. He shared on projects under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) that have been carried out by the Kulliyyah which include financial literacy programme, riverfront and mental wellbeing.

According to Dr. Hassanudden, the Kulliyyah had planned on the future SDG and one of it is to recommend all post-graduate students to come up with SDG research that will benefit the society instead of publishing a journal for academic purpose only.

“This is the time where the Kulliyyah has to review their academic programmes and to have a mindset change among our academicians and administrative staff as well as to reflect the concept of sustainable development goals.”

“We have successful numbers of flagship programmes and transformations while we try to transform according to the sustainable development, and one of the things that I proposed to the Rector is to have a comprehensive human resource transformation plan,” the professor added. ***
