The Right Honourable Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Panglima Richard Malanjum, the 9th Chief Justice of Malaysia who spoke on “The Role of Dissenting Judgment in the Malaysian Judicial System”

Gombak, 19 October - -The 17th Professor Emeritus Ahmad Ibrahim Memorial Lecture, is a series of lectures organised annually by the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, to commemorate and pay tribute to the immense contributions made by Al-Marhum Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Datuk Ahmad bin Mohamed Ibrahim to the development of the Malaysian judicial and legal systems, both civil and Islamic.

Al-Marhum was a remarkable man, who has distinguished himself through excellence as a scholar, practitioner, and administrator.

The annual lecture series which was inaugurated in the year 2000 by the  Institute of Islamic Understanding (IKIM) and continued by the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws till today have since witnessed many luminaries of the legal profession and scholars of law, local and international, delivering on various themes on development of the law and the legal systems.

The 17th Professor Emeritus Ahmad Ibrahim Memorial Lecture was held on 19th October 2018 at the Moot Court, Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, IIUM and was delivered by The Right Honourable Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Panglima Richard Malanjum, the 9th Chief Justice of Malaysia who spoke on “The Role of Dissenting Judgment in the Malaysian Judicial System”.

The auspicious event was well attended by more than 300 guests from members of the Al-Marhum’s family, members of the Malaysian Bench and Bar, academics, law students and those who hold Al-Marhum in high regard.



In conjunction with the 17th Memorial Lecture, the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws has launced a collection of 16 inspiring and thought provoking Professor Emeritus Ahmad Ibrahim Memorial Lectures.

The compilation presents various themes comprising Waqf, Development of Islamic Law in Malaysia after Independence, National Security Affecting Personal Freedom, the Parliamentary System, the Relations between Religion, Law and Human Rights, Asian Constitutionalism, Survival of State Law amidst Challenges, Judicial Review, Constitutional Government in Malaysia, Alternative Dispute Resolution in Humanitarian Conflicts, Malaysia as an Islamic Financial Global Hub, Islamic Finance Litigation in Malaysia,Mainstreaming Islamic Finance, Developing Malaysia’s Own Common Law and Expeditious Disposal of Cases at Commercial Courts.

The array of topics presented in the collection will definitely appeal to a wide range of readers and serve as a recognition and honour of Al-Marhum Professor Emeritus Ahmad Ibrahim.
