The board is  responsible for the overview of quality assurance procedures, communications with the Senate, and the identification and dissemination of good practice. The board is a sub-committee of the Senate.

Functions:

The responsibilities of the Board of Academic Review are to:

  • advise Senate on matters of policies relating to teaching and learning
  • monitor the structures and mechanisms in place for quality assurance and control
  • receive relevant statistical indicators and to promote measures to improve the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning
  • encourage and monitor good practice and innovations in teaching and learning and the assessment of student performance
  • review undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
  • review the operation of IIUM’s modular, credit-based curriculum framework and to advise Senate on potential areas of development
  • receive reports and recommendations from the QCC and the curriculum sub-committee
  • keep under review the activities of the Academic Review Board and to receive reports therefrom
  • have a general overview of the quality and standards in kulliyyahs/centres
  • receive reports from Deputy Deans for academic affairs on appropriate kulliyyah/centre matters including annual and periodic programme reviews
