The Master of Human Science in Communication programme is designed to produce communication scholars and professionals who are committed to spiritual, moral, intellectual and creative excellence. The programme involves an appreciation of the Western and Islamic heritage behind the current media forms and institutions. It recognizes the importance of modern techniques in effective communication. The Islamic input in teaching enables students to distinguish between the permissible and the prohibited in creative communication activities as well as to evaluate the products and practices of the Western media.
Programme Description
The programme basically requires two years of full time study or three years on a part time basis. Students in this programme are engaged in in-depth study of communication. The methodology used in the programme includes lectures, discourses, examinations, presentations, article and book reviews, consultations, researches, as well as dissertation/thesis. Field studies and surveys are also required wherever applicable.
Entry Requirements
- A relevant Bachelor’s degree with good grade from IIUM or any other accredited institutions of higher learning, or other certificates that are recognized as equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree or relevant professional qualifications and experience that are recognized by the Senate of the University.
- Applicants are required to obtain the following English proficiency level:

Note: Students are required to provide evidence of English proficiency by submitting their proficiency certificates before the beginning of the programme. If they fail to do so, they will be required to sit for the IIUM-administered English Placement Test (EPT).
