BACKGROUND OF THE WEBINAR SERIES
Contributions to Contemporary Islamic Economics- Moving Forward aims to commemorate influential works and visionary personalities who have contributed significantly to the development of contemporary Islamic economics by highlighting their economic vision, thoughts and ideas as well as their relevance and implications in the context of our contemporary times. In this webinar session, we analyse the pioneering thoughts of Sayyid Abul A’la Mawdudi, a leading thinker and activist of the Muslim world in the mid-20th century. Mawdudi’s "First Principles of Islamic Economics" constitutes a compilation of his major writings and speeches from 1940s to 1960s. In this book, he envisaged an economic system that is holistic, sustainable and ‘natural’ in its approach. A system that is guided by revelation, based on the foundations of ethics and morality, individual freedom with personal accountability, social justice with equal opportunity, and shared responsibilities. Moving forward, his basic ideas and thoughts are still very much relevant today in our efforts to achieve inclusive growth, sustainable development, responsible finance, and overall human well-being, which are among the primary goals of Islamic Economics.
See you all in the session.
