On the 24th of May 2019, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Ericsson Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) organized the Connected Mangroves Challenge 2.0 Hackathon to support the development of innovative applications in environmental managements.

This event was co-organized by Celcom, Axiata XPAND and Jabatan Pengajian Tinggi (JPT) under Academia-Industry Talent Exchange Programme (AI xChange): Ceo@Faculty Programme 2.0 ‘Coached by the Pro’ and Malaysian Fisheries Society (MFS).

In its second year, the theme of the Hackathon was “Connected Mangroves” challenge for monitoring and management of mangrove ecosystem using the next generation of IoT (NB-IoT) sensors.

Alhamdulillah, our IIUM team obtained the 3rd place for the challenge with a cash prize of RM 5000 with their invention called i-Krabb which caught the hearts and minds of the judges from Ericsson, UTM and UPM during the final pitching session.

Our IIUM team consisted of three postgraduate students from the Kulliyyah of Engineering who are:

1- Muhamad Farhan Mohd Pu’ad 2- Nurfatin Azma Abdul Jalal 3- Nurjehan Ezzatul Ahmad

and supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khairul Azami Sidek, the Deputy Director from the Office of Industrial Links IIUM.
