Gombak, 2 May 2021. In delivering welcoming remarks at the student’s forum of A World Without Nuclear Weapons, Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, the Rector of IIUM, reminds the forum that the task of eliminating nuclear weapons is not easy since there is a prevalent fallacy that nuclear weapons provide security to the world.

The Law Students’ Society of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws organise the forum involving speakers from different universities; namely Bro Muhannad Munir from Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia, Bro Irfan Affendy Adrian from University Teknologi MARA and Sis Nahda Anisa Rahma from Fakultas Hukum, Universitas Gadjah Mada. The forum was moderated by Sis Nur Hashima Edhan.

The panelists agree that more need to be done to increase the awareness of the danger of nuclear weapons taking the lesson of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons by itself could not be the solution since it requires the support and commitment from the youth of today to ensure the objective of the treaty is achieved.
