M.IRKH. in Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh

This Master's programme is designed to cater for candidates who intend to acquire specialized knowledge in the fields of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh, Currently, it offers specialized courses on Islamic Jurisprudence and in line with the University`s aspiration, these courses are research oriented. To develop research ability in the students, they are exposed to critical treatment of juridical legacy in the field. This is carried out via research projects, seminars and forums which are part of the students` academic life.

The programme can be pursued either through a combination of coursework and dissertation or by coursework only. Under the first option, students are required to complete 25 credit hours of coursework and 15 credit hours of dissertation. Under the second option, students are required to complete 34 credit hours of courses and 6 credit hours of academic exercise.

Entry Requirements

  1. A relevant Bachelor’s degree with good grade from IIUM or any other accredited institutions of higher learning, or other certificates that are recognized as equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree or relevant professional qualifications and experience that are recognized by the Senate of the University.
  1. Applicants are required to obtain the following Arabic and English proficiency levels:

Minimum score on IIUM's

Arabic Placement Test (APT)

Minimum TOEFL / IELTS

7.0

               Paper based: 550

                 IELTS - Band 6

Note: Students are required to provide evidence of English proficiency by submitting their proficiency certificates before the beginning of the programme. If they fail to do so, they will be required to sit for the IIUM-administered English Placement Test (EPT).
