Message From The Dean
السلام عليكم ورحمة اللّه وبركاتة
In the name Allah the Most Gracious and Most Merciful. Praise and blessing to our beloved messenger Prophet Muhammad saw.
This year is a pivotal year for Kulliyah of Medicine where we celebrate the 20 years of its establishment. It is one of the thirteen kulliyyahs of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). This is the only public university that uses English language as the medium of instruction. We are located in Kuantan the capital city of the State of Pahang, Malaysia.
As a constituent of the IIUM, our institution upholds the concept of Tawheed (The Oneness of Allah SWT) in the delivery of knowledge by espousing the University Philosophy on Islamization of Human Knowledge, Integration and Internationalization to achieve Comprehensive Excellence (IIICE). Our organizing principles with this holistic approach allows us to meet this mission in new and unique ways to contribute to building well educated, balanced individual, humanity orientated and globally aware work force.
A diverse group of local and international members form our faculty consisting of 137 full-time academic staff and 72 trainee lecturers. As experts in their own fields, they have emerged as a diverse multi-disciplinary faculty with a national and international reputation. Their priority is to provide students with quality academic experience, as well as form strong links between research, teaching and learning. Despite the growth of the student population with the increase in the undergraduate intake and expansion of our postgraduate clinical postgraduate programs, I am pleased to say the faculty and staff have kept their commitment to the quality of our educational offerings, research activities and outreach to our community that spur lifelong learning and a spirit of inquiry and reflection.
The undergraduate MBBS programme has been receiving full recognition and accreditation from the Malaysian Qualifying Agency (MQA) since its inception. To date, sixteen batches of medical doctors have successfully completed the programme. Many of our alumni have charted successful careers as specialists and academics in government and teaching institutions. Our alumni community is living proof of the all-inclusive approach to medical education in finding a fulfilling career and a meaningful life both professionally and spiritually.
We are grateful to the Ministry of Health for granting the opportunity to utilize the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA) in Kuantan, Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad (HOSHAS) in Temerloh and Hospital Pekan for our clinical programme thus far. We are fortunate to pass another milestone this year in the launching of the International Islamic University Malaysia Medical Centre (IIUMMC), a 350-bedded state-of-the art fully equipped teaching hospital. It is expected to be fully operational by 2019.
I encourage you to explore our website to learn about the opportunities that await you at IIUM. We invite you to join us as a student, alumnus, benefactor, faculty, or staff member in our efforts to improve the health of the local community, the nation, and ultimately the ummah..
