WANGSA MAJU - - The Alumni Relations Division RM20 per alumni campaign was launched by IIUM President, Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar, earlier today during the IIUM Alumni Charity Bowling Tournament at the Wangsa Bowl bowling alley in Wangsa Walk Mall.

With the launching of the campaign, the IIUM alumni will be able to contribute to the university, where RM20 individually is expected per year in support of the aim to encourage the alumni to channel their donation and contribution for the betterment of the university’s management.

Also present to grace the launching was IIUM Rector, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak.

Apart from the ceremony, the tournament was also enlivened by a gimmick which saw the IIUM President rolling the first house ball into the lane.

“This is a very symbolic donation drive to urge each and every alumni of the university to consider donating at least RM20 a year,” Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar said, adding that “the drive could help the needs of particular students in their studies in terms of social welfare, their accommodation and development.”

“They have been contributing a lot in the past, but surely we have to open up many new channels for them to contribute more. Not only financially, but also non-financial aspect as well including their time, effort, ideas, perspectives and opportunities for employment,” he said.

“So, we are always motivated to see them coming back with more new ideas and we wanted them to also push the Alumni Division and university management to do more and create opportunities,” he added.

The Alumni Relations Division director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azam Othman was also present at the launching.

The inaugural tournament, aimed at assisting the needy students through the IIUM Alumni Scholarship and Financial Assistance (ALSAFA) fund, had turned out to be an exciting experience when the alumni and staff were competing each other among 32 teams in total.

One of the participants from a team called F2F Stars, Ismail Hassan, said such initiative taken by the Alumni Relations Division to reunite the alumni in a fun activity should be given credit.

“I like this kind of programme and we are looking forward for more events organised by the Alumni Relations Division. Please let us know and we are ready to spare our time,” Ismail said, suggesting that the next event could be conducted in the campus itself.

Ismail is also the alumni batch 2005 from Executive Bachelor of Business Management (EBBM), Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENMS).
