Expert Profile
Associate Professor Dr. Maizatun Mustafa is a law lecturer with Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws. She obtained her LL.B. from IIUM in 1992 and proceeded to obtain her M.C.L. from the same university in 1993. In 2001, she obtained her Ph.D from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. Her major area of interest is Environmental Law. She has been appointed as a consultant by several ministries for environmental-related projects including that of the Ministry of Works Malaysia, and the International Affairs Division, Attorney General's Chambers Malaysia. For her consultancy work with the Ministry of Works, she was awarded the `Excellent Research Award' by the IIUM in 2003.
She has also authored many articles that have been published in numerous publications and presented at many conferences, local and international. In 2008, she was invited by the Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM) Education Hub Thematic Network on Human Security, under the Asia-Europe Foundation's (ASEF) as a guest speaker for their annual conference in Madrid on "Water Availability and Policies in Asia". In 2008, she published a monograph with a renowned publisher, Kluwer Law International, the Netherlands entitled International Encyclopaedia of Laws: Environmental Law Malaysia. Then, in 2011, she published Environmental Law Malaysia with the same publisher.
She has been a consultant with the Land Tenure and Environmental Management Unit (LATEM) since 2002, and with the International Law and Maritime Affairs Research Unit (ILMA) since 2010. At the international level, she is a member of the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law.
