Expert Profile
Noor Yuslida binti Hazahari is currently an Assistant Professor and became an addition to the International Institute for Halal Research and Training (INHART), in 2018. She started her tertiary education at the International Islamic University Malaysia Matriculation Centre (IIUM MC) in the year 2001. Subsequently, after one and a half year there, she pursued on till obtained her Bachelor of Biotechnology (Honours), with her final year focus in Food Biotechnology from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), in 2007. She took a break to venture into teaching at the International Islamic School (IIS), Kuala Lumpur for 3 years and gained her passion through preparing teenage students for the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). She then completed her specializing cycle by levelling it up to continue studies and graduated from her Master of Science in Biotechnology Engineering, also from IIUM, in 2013. After her successful application as a grantee for the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship, she then has been conferred a Ph.D degree in the field of Marine Life Science on March 22nd, 2018. Under one of the six educational chairs known as Marine Bioresources Chemistry, from the Graduate School of Fisheries Sciences, at the Hokkaido University (Hakodate Campus) Japan, her research back then focuses on the characteristics of oxidative stability in selected plant and seaweed lipids and its application as a potential halal alternative ingredient.
After coming back to home country, she never confined herself to a particular niche area. Instead, she chooses to have interest in especially halal alternative ingredients, plant & seaweed lipid technology, halal food science & food biotechnology, bio-functional resources & material chemistry with much emphasis on Qur’an, values, ethics, technology, society & sustainability related research. Currently, she dedicates her expertise in 3 core areas such as (a) Halal Products, (b) Food Sciences & Nutrition, and (c) Medical & Health Sciences. She is commonly tasked to be the instructor for the subjects namely (i) Values, Technology & Society, (ii) Values, Ethics & Sustainability in Halal Industry, (iii) Sustainable Development: Issues, Policy & Practices, (iv) Halal Industry & Advanced Techniques Analysis, (v) Halal Assurance System, (vi) Ethics & Toyyiban Concepts in Halal Products & Services, and (vii) Contemporary Islamic Rulings on Halal Issues, among other halal and science related subjects. She has received grants at the national level including internally (few others at the university level). She is also involved as among the mainboards and member of few Shari’ah compliant research groups and projects within IIUM also as editorial member and served as reviewer in few halal-related peer reviewed journals.
Noor Yuslida is passionate about on-campus as well as off-campus life. She is enthusiastic in contributing to community through volunteering herself as one of the fellows (Academic Advisor: Musrifah) for Mahallah Asma' and is directly involved with activities concerning students and their well-being. As a lecturer, she has dealt in various capacities with both the undergraduate and postgraduate students.
