Gombak, 19 September, 2021. Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws welcomes existing and new students to the Gombak Campus reopening in Semester 1 2021/2022, which will be in October 2021.
In furtherance to the guideline issued by the Ministry of Higher Education on 14th September 2021, the release of the IIUM Official Guidelines for Campus Reopening 01/2021 on 15th September 2021 and the open letter from the Dean to the student body issued on 15th September 2021, Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws addresses the Law Student’s Society and student representatives to discuss the preparation for the campus reopening. Bro Ahmad Ibrahim Mohd Radzi, the President of the Law Student’s Society leads the student representatives and the Law Student’s Society hosts the meeting.
Prof Farid Sufian Shuaib, the Dean of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws in his opening remarks highlighted that during the pandemic, the society has to confront the realities of the inequities of income, ICT and internet access, and the widening divide of rural and urban communities. The pandemic lays bare the inequalities and mental health problems compounded by the impact of the lockdown, movement control order and the freezing of economic activities.
With those realities in mind, the Kulliyyah is moving slowly but firmly towards the renewed normal under the pandemic. Some of students may not have a suitable corner at home to study during the pandemic. The campus may offer better internet connection for online learning, better computer lab facilities to do research and perhaps a better environment for students to continue their study.
The Kulliyyah explains that as the first step towards the renewed normal, acknowledging the fluidity of the situation, expecting that students would not be able to return or enter the campus at the same time, and trying to avoid changing the means of teaching in the middle of the semester, the Kulliyyah will not change the mode of teaching and learning for the coming semester. The method of teaching and learning would still be remote teaching and learning (RTL) as in the past 3 semesters.
The Kulliyyah shares the concern regarding the health of the students and their family. As advised by the Ministry of Higher Education, existing students and new students could obtain vaccination for COVID-19 - in accordance with the guideline given by the Ministry of Higher Education – at the PPV around the country. Apart from reducing the risk of infection, transmission or severity of the disease, only those with complete vaccination are allowed to enter the campus.
The Deputy Dean (Academic and Internationalisation), Dr Wan Mohd Zulhafiz Wan Zahari and the Deputy Dean (Student Development and Community Engagement), Dr Mohd Yazid Zul Kepli also address the student’s queries. They remind students to refer to latest guidelines from the University, the Ministry of Higher Education and the National Security Council (NSC) considering the fluidity of the situations.
