Gombak, 14 January 2022. Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL) in collaboration with Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology organises the 3rd Symposium on Information and Communication Technology for Sustainability 2022 on 14th January 2022.
The symposium features distinguished speakers from International Islamic University Malaysia, National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Polis Diraja Malaysia and Serba Dinamik. Dr Mahyuuddin Daud from AIKOL leads the organising committee.
Prof Farid Sufian Shuaib, the Dean of AIKOL in his opening speech signals the importance of ethics and values in developing and adopting information and communication technology. Values, rather than technology, should dictate how the world uses the technology.
In the 3rd series, the symposium addresses 3 broad but important themes in Information technology laws, namely platform regulation, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
With the country recovering from the effects of the pandemic Covid19, the issue of online platform regulation has been a global concern. Especially when artificial intelligence has been applied into online platforms, one is left to wonder whether their presence in the digital world is safe.
As far as the legal fraternity is concerned, the use of AI has been applied in sentencing, hence leaving us to ponder whether the appropriate principles of law and justice is adhered to or left to the hands of robots to administer.
The symposium also highlights these issues and adds more ideas that could shape how the legal framework on this context shall be developed.
It has always been the visions and missions of the Kulliyyah to educate AIKOL’s legal minds to be consistently updated with current issues in cyber law that poses challenges to the legal world. To step-up to the rising issues and challenges, IIUM has also announced its commitment to work towards United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as aligned with the mission and visions of the university, where AIKOL championed the ‘Peace and Justice in the Community’ flagship.
