FRAUDULENTLY or dishonestly inducing a person to deliver any property to any person or inducing a person to do or omit to do anything which he would not do or omit to do if he were not so deceived is a criminal offence under the Penal Code.
In education, misappropriating the creative works of another, such as published and unpublished documents, computer software, design and music, is a serious transgression at all levels.
Plagiarism among students, researchers or academic staff is an ethical offence that would be subject to academic censure, such as suspension or expulsion from the institution.
Likewise, submitting an undergraduate project paper or postgraduate thesis written by
someone else is unethical and a violation of the academic integrity of most, if not all, universities.
Students embarking on higher education must have the highest standards of honesty and integrity. They should not resort to dubious ways to achieve their ambition, as the consequence of such conduct is serious.
Academic qualifications acquired through dubious ways would not only expose the person to possible criminal charges of fraud or cheating but would also entail the withdrawal of the qualification by the institution.
Furthermore, a person who misrepresented his qualification to his employer can be subject to disciplinary action by the employer even if such misrepresentation or deception is discovered some time later.
