GOMBAK, 12 July 2018: IIUM celebrated its Quality Day 2018 today where a total of 97 awards were presented to the staff representing both academic and non-academic agencies in recognition of their contributions of quality work to the university.

The awards fell under seven categories which are quality administrative staff award (8), sports award (4), Mahallah award (2), Budi award (2), research award (46), top 30 Myra contributors, best booth award (3), agency award (4) and academic award (13).

Held at IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC), this programme was aimed at encouraging the spirit and quality of work of IIUM’s staff. It was held to motivate academicians and staff to work hard to produce good work quality in line with the university’s mission and vision.

In her speech, IIUM Rector, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamarudin said: “The grounds why we choose ‘Inspiring Innovation’ as the theme is because we want to ensure that IIUM will be the cutting edge of new knowledge compared to other universities.”

She highlighted six IIUM critical success factors which are students and graduate excellence, talent excellent, research and innovation excellence, global prominence, financial sustainability and societal well-being, and wealth creation.

“For this year, the awards have been given to those who fulfilled the criteria or format of “Anugerah Akademik Negara” (AAK). On that point, these are some standards that should be met by the staff and academicians to receive the awards,” Prof. Zaleha said.

Among other highlights of Quality Day, IIUM received USD 300,000 from the Director of Scholarship IQRAA, Dr. Awad Al-Thubaity. The sponsorship will be given to Tabung Wakaf UIAM (IEF) to help students who are in need.

IQRAA  is one of the agencies associated with Dallah Albaraka Holding Company(DBHC) which is located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This agency is responsible for taking care of the welfare and humanity aspects of the company.

Besides that, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Sidek Baba or better known as ‘Cikgu
Sidek’ from Kulliyyah of Education has been honoured with the Academic
Icon Award (AIN) 2018. AIN is one of the prestigious awards given in
recognition of academicians for their outstanding quality work.
