GOMBAK, 16 MARCH - - International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) receives a 5-star recognition from ‘Malaysia Research Assessment’ (MyRA) for year 2020 (4^th Edition of MyRA Star Rating).

MyRA’s decision was announced by YBhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Muhammad Fauzi Mohd Zain, Director of Higher Education Research Excellence Division in an award ceremony held at Palm Garden Hotel, Putrajaya, yesterday.

IIUM Rector, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak received the award on behalf of IIUM. The award was given by Minister of Higher Education, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Dr. Noraini Binti Ahmad. MyRA system build more research ability at university and international level.

MyRA’s instrument is use with the intention to measure among others the research activity, development, commercialization, and innovation (RDC&I) capabilities at public universities and university-based of Private Higher Education Institution, Overseas University Branch Campuses and University Colleges.

The achievement is measure based on the criteria and benchmarks set for each indicator, but it is not intended to rank specific to evaluated institutions, but rather to give recognition (rating) which divided into six Star levels.

According to the Rector of IIUM, he said the University’s position with the recognition of five stars proves that IIUM is focused as a reference centre in the field of research in particular. What’s more, this time it was higher than last year’s rating. This demonstrates that IIUM’s capabilities should be nurtured in line with efforts to curb flagship projects since mid-2018. Instead, using Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as its focus and research ground.

“IIUM now has planned a direction of the IIUM Roadmap 2019-2020 as the university’s primary focus on building campus sustainability and well-being based on SDG,” he added.

According to him, the MyRA system created based on the experience of universities from UK and Australia which provides more accurate indicators and criteria than the often-misunderstood commercial form. It should be supported because its wide relevance including public involvement.

The MyRA 2020 Star rating is managed and implemented by the Higher Education Research Excellence Division, the Higher Education Department, the Ministry of Higher Education and the RDC&I rating and achievement are categorized into six levels with 6 stars as the highest and 1 star for the lowest.

Dato’ Dr. Mohd Ghazali Bin Abas, Deputy Director General of Higher Education (Academic and Development), YBhg. Dato’ Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Saleh Jaafar, Deputy Director General of Higher Education (Research and International) Ybrs. Prof. Dr. Mohd Cairul Iqbal Mohd Amin, Higher Management and KPT Officers, Vice Chansellors and Rector of Public University and Chief Executive of Officers of IPTS.
