INSTRUCTIONAL EDUCATIONAL FIELD TRIP TO CAMERON HIGHLAND
DATE/DAY: 21 MARCH TO 23 MARCH 2021/SUNDAY TO TUESDAY
LOCATION: CAMERON HIGHLAND, PAHANG
Biology department has initiated a three-day instructional educational field trip to Cameron Highland from 21 March until 23 March 2021. The primary aim of the educational trip is to complement and fulfill acquired knowledge and practical skills specifically in topics Biodiversity, Biotechnology and Ecology. Instructional educational field trip serves as alternative teaching and learning strategy for academic staff. It can also provide enriching experience in terms of hands-on and minds-on for academic staff as well as the opportunity to take a break from their normal routine.
One of the activities that relates to Biodiversity was visit to Mardi's Agrotechnology Park.
The RM8 million 42-hectare park has several areas for example English Cottage, English Garden, Herbs Garden, Strawberry plot, Orchid Garden, Flower Garden, Vegetables Plot, Test-Bed, Roses Garden, Vegetables Garden, Research Centre, Tea Factory, Tea Plantation, Garden Science Plot, Nurseries, Organic Plot, Butterfly and Rabbit Garden. A few MARDI’s officers conducted briefing as well as guided tour around the park.
At the Mossy Forest, we were awestruck by the amazing biodiversity created by the ultimate Creator, Allah swt., the Most Beneficient. Mossy Forest is a lush area where moss has encapsulated the landscape that is located at 2032m above sea level in Mount Brinchang. It is also known as Cloud Rainforest as the mist settles there. It has surreal ambience and the atmosphere is chilly and moist.
Our visit to Boh Tea Garden at Sungai Palas provided us with another insight on tea processing. Boh Tea Sungai Palas is a tea plantation located in Brinchang about 5km north from town or 2km away from Kea Farm. The true character of BOH’s teas is greatly influenced by the conditions at the tea gardens; namely high altitude, low temperatures, abundant rainfall and acidic soil.
