MALAYSIA AND TURKEY CONTINUE ENHANCING RELATIONSHIP ESTABLISHED BETWEEN THE OTTOMAN AND THE MALAY WORLD IN THE 16TH CENTURY

Gombak, 4 November 2021. The reformation of Islamic law in the Ottoman reverberates in the Malay World through the adoption of the Majelle in the State of Johor. The codification of Islamic law by the Ottoman in the form of the Mecelle-i Ahkam-ı Adliye (1876) - or referred to simply as the Majelle - has brought the reformation taking place in the Ottoman to the Malay World.
The Department of Legal Studies, Centre for Foundation Studies and Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University in partnership with the Faculty of Law, Ankara Yildirim University, Turkey organise the International Webinar on the Era of Uthmaniyyah and Its Contribution towards the Development of Islamic Law.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kilinc from Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University explains that during the period of codification and new ijtihad, the framework of the limited legislative authority granted to the Ulul Amri by Islamic law is used to modernise the application of Islamic law.
Prof. Farid Sufian Shuaib provides the connection since the 16th century between the Ottoman and the Sultanate of Aceh, the people of Moro Muslims and the Sultanate of Johor as a platform of continued collaboration between the different worlds.
Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dzulkifli Razak, the Rector of International Islamic University Malaysia welcomes the collaboration between the two universities and calls for strengthening of collaboration to bring benefit to human civilisation that are facing multiple crisis not least the climate change.
The Rector of Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Aydinli through his representative and the Prof. Dr. Hayri Bozgeyik, the Dean of Faculty of Law, Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University echoes the same message that greatly receives the strengthening partnership of the two universities.
