Malaysia – Japan Exchange Culture: Kansai University Japanese Teaching Practical Programme 2019

From 15th -20th February 2019, Kulliyyah of Languages and Management in collaboration with Kansai University and Japanese class held Kansai University Japanese Teaching Practical Programme 2019. This programme aimed to improve the Japanese communication ability of students who are taking Japanese class as well as to give them an opportunity to employ what they had learned in the Japanese Class. In the other side, this event also aimed to give Kansai University practicum students an experience of teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language and exposure to Malaysian culture.

This was realized through the Malacca trip on 16th February 2019, where students from Japanese Speech Communication and Japanese Written Communication classes got the chance to practice on giving explanation in Japanese regarding the history of Malaysia and Malacca while guiding the practicum students throughout the trip.
During the trip, Kansai University practicum students also were introduced to Malaysian traditional food such as cendol, durian and young coconut.

Starting from 17th February 2019 until 19th February 2019, Kansai University practicum students began to get in to the classes. Here, the Kansai University practicum students got the hands on of teaching Japanese to students who had different level of Japanese proficiency starting from students who were taking Basic Japanese 2 class until students who were taking Japanese Speech Communication and Japanese Written Communication. The Kansai University practicum students had to adopt the teaching method according the condition of the class itself.
Not only teaching Japanese language, Kansai University students were also introduced the students with Japanese traditional culture such as oshougatsu which is one of Japan tradition that is conducted during the New Year. Thus, students who were taking Japanese classes could get more exposure and also understanding toward Japanese culture.
At the end, this programme was successfully fulfilled the objective intended. Both Kansai University practicum students and IIUM students Pagoh Campus got a new insight in culture and language.
