There are many youths in Malaysia who have excelled in their respective fields, simultaneously inspiring the younger generation. Though, the success they have earned is not one that happened overnight. Some, have faced great struggles growing up, while others were met with failure before rising up to become who they are today.
SYED SADDIQ
Born on December 6, 1992 in Pulai, Johor Bahru, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is the second child of four siblings. He received primary education at Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Perling, Johor Bahru before studying at Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar (English College), where his mother worked as an English teacher.
After the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination, Syed Saddiq continued his secondary education at the Royal Military College for two years before furthering his studies at the International Islamic University Malaysia (UIAM), majoring in law. There, he joined the Asian-level debate competition and became Asia's Overall Best Speaker at the United Asian Debating Championship (UADC). He then went on to win the English as Second Language (ESL) Speaker Award in the Australasia, Cambridge and Oxford intervarsities tournament in 2012 to 2014.
To make ends meet, Syed Saddiq had once done various part-time jobs, which include being a part-time lecturer for public speaking, a researcher at Bait Al-Amanah as well as a trainer for junior debaters at UIAM and other national debate teams. Now however, he is more focused on the youth movement and is actively participating in movements or organisations that actively champion youth-related issues.
His venture into politics later led him to join Pari Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), in which he was appointed as the Youth Chief by the party's top leaders. After winning the Muar parliamentary seat in the recent 14th General Election, he is now the Muar Member of Parliament (MP).
