Expert Profile
Dr. Muhammad Ibn Ibrahimy started his teaching career as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 2004 and where he is currently working as a Professor in the same department. He is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of GEOMATE published in Japan and the Section Editor of IIUM Engineering Journal Publication. He also served as an Editor of the International Journal of Nanoelectronics and Materials published by the Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and the Cogent Engineering - Electrical & Electronic Engineering Section published by the Taylor & Francis. All above journals are indexed by SCOPUS, WoS: ESCI, etc. He is the Founder Chairman of the VLSI and System Design Research Unit at IIUM and has secured more than RM two million worth of research grants as a project leader as well as co-researcher from international organizations and Ministries of Malaysian Government. He was appointed as a consultant in many international and national organizations and industries. He has supervised 30 PhD and Masters students. Prof. Ibrahimy attended more than 30 international conferences as keynote speaker, invited speaker and presenter. He has published more than eighty research articles in peer reviewed journals, has two patents and eight books and book chapters. He attended a Japanese Government Invitational Youth Program in Japan as a Student Delegate from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region in 1988. He obtained his BSc (Honours) and MSc degrees in Applied Physics and Electronics from the University of Rajshahi in 1988 and 1990 respectively. Then he served as a Scientific Officer at the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) in Dhaka and was later awarded an International Fellowship on Radiation Protection by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria in 1994. He participated in intensive training courses on VLSI Design Techniques and VHDL for Hardware Synthesis & FPGA Design, organized by the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy in 1998 and 2008 respectively. He obtained his PhD degree in Electrical, Electronic and Systems Engineering from the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM - National University of Malaysia) in 2001. From 2001 to 2003, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Mie University, sponsored by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). He became a Chartered Engineer (CEng) granted by the Engineering Council, UK in 2018. Prof. Ibrahimy is an Advisor of the GEOMATE International Society established in Japan. He is a member of IET, UK and also a Senior Member of IEEE, USA.
