The Speaker of Dewan Rakyat, YB Dato’ Mohamad Ariff bin Md Yusof, invited IIUM to be a member of the proposed All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on SDG. This was conveyed by him to the Dean of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, IIUM, Prof. Farid Sufian Shuaib during the “Dinner with Malaysian Members of Civil Society Organisations and Sustainable Development Goals Alliance” hosted by the Speaker at the Malaysian Houses of Parliament. 

In his speech, the Speaker explained that the proposed APPG will be led by Members of Parliament but membership of the grouping includes NGOS and academics. The APPG will provide a platform for experts from NGOs and academics to offer their views and data for better policy and law making, and oversight by the Parliament. 

Also speaking during the dinner was Mr. Stefan Priesner, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Malaysia.
