On 7th July 2020, one of our Department of Basic Medical Sciences members, SR. SRIVIOWARTI NOERDIN was receiving the CREATIVITY & INNOVATION AWARD in IIUM TAKRIM DAY 2020. The event is an event to acknowledge agencies (academic and non-academic) and members of staff who have contributed significantly to the University.

Sr. Sriviowarti is our senior Medical Lab Technologist who are always take the initiative to seek new ways of doing her jobs and more efficient approaches using existing resources. Her idea was to set up a SIMPLER VERSION OF PERFUSION SET which is used in perfusion procedure to obtain the best preservation of animal in order to produce a good histology slide for teaching and research purpose. In perfusion procedure, we need to passage of formalin and normal saline alternately via the vascular system. This perfusion set was made from recycle plastic perfusion bottles, recycle perfusion drip tube and Y connector. Two bottles were used for formalin and normal saline and by using the Y connector, allow this 2 solution enter the vascular system alternately and safe without any difficulties.

The idea has resulted the department successfully organized a perfusion workshop for the 1st time in 2018. The workshop was full housed whom the participants came from IIUM and other institutions like USM, UITM, UNIZA and UMP. All the participants had hands on experience during the workshop and gave positive feedback. Since the cost of perfusion set is cheap, we managed to replicate up to ten units for an effective hands on workshop. This set also can be used in the future teaching and research purpose and no maintenance cost.

Her success hopefully will inspired other members of the Kulliyyah to come out with more creative and innovative solutions in the future. When creativity is a basic tool in our institution, great ideas may come from unexpected sources. Someone who has never before offered a useful suggestion might come up with a revolutionary idea you wish you'd thought of yourself. Go with it — and give the innovator full credit!

WARMEST CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN!
