KUALA LUMPUR, 30th September 2019: The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) together with CIMB Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to further expand CIMB Foundation’s flagship programme called Be$mart.

The event held at Menara CIMB and attended by the CEO of CIMB Foundation, Dato’ Hamidah Naziadin, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Isarji Haji Sarudin, Deputy Rector, Academic and Industrial Linkage, fellow Dean and Head of Departments from Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design, Director, Office of Industrial Link, Dr. Norbaiduri Ruslan, and Director, Office of International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Amir Akramin Shafie.

CIMB Foundation becomes the main organiser for financial literacy programme for IIUM students to equip them with the mind-set, knowledge and skills to manage their finances well for every stage of life in the efforts to reduce youth bankruptcy.

Be$mart is one of CIMB Foundation’s flagship programme which is carried out by social enterprise, Gem Systems. It consists of two-day training where students will be exposed to various financial training basics, including Financial Planning, Delayed Gratification, Investments as well as Identifying Scams and how to avoid them. Students will be instructed by full-time trainers and bank experts in a very interactive lectures, simulated games and question-and-answer session with experts.

 The programme is specifically designed to provide a holistic and practical overview of the necessary components of sound financial management relevant to the university students so that they can make informed decision based on real economic situations.

The CEO of CIMB Foundation said “The Be$mart programme will predominantly focus on educating and nurturing our future generation on being financially literate.”

“Therefore, through the Be$mart programme, we hope students, especially those from the B40 segment, will be able to make wise financial choices and break the cycle of poverty in the long run,” she added.

In future, CIMB Foundation, through this MoU hope to further 9,500 students by 2021 and plant the seeds of a financially literate society across Malaysia.

To record, there were 12,870 students trained under this programme with 199 sessions conducted in 117 institutions across Malaysia on average of 65 student attendance per session.

Interested students may join the programme as it is fully funded by CIMB Foundation and the coordination team from IIUM is led by Kulliyyah of Architecture & Environmental Design (KAED) and CEO@Faculty Programme Fellows of IIUM lead by Dr. Nur Affah Mohyin. At the end of the programme, students will be given a certificate of participation from CIMB Foundation.***
