Pahang Open is an annual event organised by Persatuan Catur Negeri Pahang (PCP) since 2016 as a medium of the toughest chess tournament ever held in Malaysia with great prizes. For this year, the open category attracted international and local players including three Grand Masters (GM) and five International Masters (IM).
There were 3 categories: Open, Challenger and Under 12 which the Open and Challenger category are FIDE rated. Sport Unit has grabbed this opportunity by sending 5 CFS IIUM students accompanied by Assistant Sport Officer, Fatimah Binti Man in which 4 of them contested in Challenger category, and one in Open.
After two days and 8 rounds with 113 participants, one of CFS students (CFS IIUM Gambang representative) Ahmad Huzaifi bin Ahmad Azahri has done CFS proud as he managed to get 7th place out of 20 places in Challenger category, with 6 out of 8 points (He is also a winner in previous ISCAR and SMAC).
For that achievement, he got a medal, a certificate and cash worth RM300. Meanwhile, one of CFS staff, Mohd Hanif Arkurni bin Abas from Quranic Language Department, also participated in this tournament and obtained Best Teacher Category with a Medal, Certificate and cash RM 100.
