Gombak, 18th September 2019. Tan Sri Dato’ Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof emphasises the need to elevate the content of debates in Parliament to ensure the realisation of participatory democracy.
It is also necessary to reinvigorate the oversight function of Parliament over the executive to secure the application of the principle of separation of powers and the rule of law.
The Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat expresses these points in delivering the lecture entitled Parliamentary Reform in Malaysia: Challenges and the Way Forward for the 18th Emeritus Professor Ahmad Ibrahim Memorial Lecture. Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws organises the Memorial Lecture to pay tribute to its namesake, Emeritus Professor Ahmad Ibrahim (1916-1999).
