Staying connected through IIUM mobile app

The IIUM mobile application launched by IIUM Rector, Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, is an initiative to facilitate students, faculty members and university staff to interact through mobile devices as more people open University’s website through mobile devices and tablets.

The mobile app project was a collaboration between the Office of Communication Advocacy and Promotion (OCAP) and Information Technology Division (ITD).

The idea behind developing the mobile app is to have a one-stop centre for academic staff and students for the I-Ta’leem, I Ma’luum, HURIS, local newspaper or campus news portal, Ezyduan, and all the websites that are linked to IIUM.

Among the innovations are the IIUM Infaq and IIUM Event. “IIUM Infaq” is a new initiative site where students and staff members can participate in donations or give to other people anything, not necessarily food, that include clothes, money, books and others. While “IIUM Event” will have information on news agenda on campus like seminars, talks, and so on.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Sulaiman Bin Hashim, one of the IIUM mobile app’s developers stated, “We are thinking of having an application like Harvard Apps and we hope soon we will be able to add more features in the apps, like E-Shop or others.”

Dr. Sulaiman added, “We are following the youth culture to be connected 24/7 hours, whereby a phone is their nature, and with the integration of all websites into the mobile apps, it will reduce miscommunication and able to connect students with the University’s events or administration, and students will stay connected with their University.”

To spread information wider, the campus community will be able to communicate using the IIUM mobile apps and all social media platforms including twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and websites.

On websites facing problems several times on Ita’leem or Ima’luum, he explained that it was because of the maintenance held by Daya Bersih, or because of external causes by thunderstorm or heavy rain.

“They will let students know when they want to shut down the internet or websites. Users of IIUM mobile app can send their complaints or feedback to ITD,” he said. ***
