IIUM staff honoured with 15 awards for sports

GOMBAK - IIUM staff honoured with University’s Staff Sports Award (USSA) for competing in a number of sports activities and events throughout the year 2018.
A total of 15 awards were presented to the staff athletes and coaches in recognition of their contributions in the university sports achievement and development.
Among the coveted prizes were the Best Team Manager Award, Best Coach, Best Team and the sought after, Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year awards.
As part of the organiser, the Director of Sports Development Centre, Asst. Prof. Mahyuddin Daud Director said the department has drawn the plan to continue their investment and involvement in sports competitions, but this time, to focus on the IIUM paralympic games, a collaboration with the Disability Services Unit.
“We also wish to explore and focus on an initiative with IIUM indigenous games which will include traditional games, played by international and local students,” he added.
One of the staff from Kuantan campus, Mohd Hanif Arkurni Abas, who received the Sportsman award, said he is determined to upraise the chess game to the university level, particularly among staff.
“This will prove that our university is able to excel in this mind sport, despite our team’s previous loses,” he, who represented the chess team, told IIUMTV News.
Held at Wadi Budi Multipurpose Hall, the IIUM Rector, Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak and Deputy Rector (Student Affairs), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zulkifli Hasan were present to express their appreciations.
The event was attended by athletes from different departments in IIUM including those from Kuantan campus.
