Gombak, 2 April 2021. Giving full attention, being non-judgmental and practising active listening could draw students to share their problem. This would be the first step in helping students with mental health issues. According to Sis Khairiah Abd Razak, a clinical psychologist at the Counselling and Career Services Centre (CCSC) of the International Islamic University Malaysia, by exercising their role as educators, more students could receive assistance.
In welcoming the training given by CCSC, Prof Farid Sufian Shuaib the Dean of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL) lays down the plan of the Kulliyyah to provide for the awareness, the tools and the facilities as part of the steps to improve the mental health well-being of students and staff.
Sis Khairiah also suggested for lecturers to ask during the class how their students feel about their life that day. This will provide an initial validation of their emotional condition.
Today’s training is a follow up to the Round Table Discussion on Mental Health Issues organised with CCSC on 1 March 2021 () and Prof Farid Sufian Shuaib expressed his thanks to Bro Saiful Redza Mohamed (Covering Director) and Sis Khairiah Abd Razak for their continuous support.
