KUALA LUMPUR: Local celebrities, Datuk Rosyam Nor and Norman Hakim today joined 1,200 motorcyclists in the Ride for World #QuranHour convoy from the National Mosque here to Shah Alam, Selangor.

The event was aimed at building the momentum towards the World #QuranHour programme scheduled to be held on Thursday.

Rosyam, who is the ambassador for World #QuranHour, said the convoy participated by individuals and bikers groups was an important initiative that needed to be mobilised to ensure appreciation in the importance of the Qur'an in everyday life.

“We not only want to promote our event on Thursday, but also to instil the culture of reciting the Quran among Muslims. Although our work is minute in size but we pray and hope it is great before Allah and becomes an endowment for the hereafter,” he said when met at the flagging off of the convoy at the National Mosque compound today.

The convoy stopped at several mosques, namely the Sultan Abdul Samad Jamek Mosque, Muadz Bin Jabbal Mosque, Ar Rahman Mosque and Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque in Section 14, Shah Alam, and presented two copies of the Quran to each mosque to symbolise the event.

They would then proceed to the Karangkraf Media Group complex in Shah Alam for a breaking-of-fast event.

The Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) was chosen as the premier location of World #QuranHour programme this year, which will be participated by approximately 5,000 Muslims.

The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah is expected to attend the programme as the royal guest of honour.

PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman are also expected to be present. — BERNAMA
