Kuala Lumpur, November 15, 2018 - Education Minister of Malaysia, Dr. Maszlee
Malik who’s the President of International Islamic University Malaysia
(IIUM) believes both Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and his
country can gain more by playing on each other’s strengths.
ARMM Mujiv Hataman paid a courtesy call on Dr. Maszlee in what the Regional
Governor described as very “comfortable” meeting.
Regional Governor met Education Minister to personally thank Dr. Maszlee for the
true cooperation and support received from IIUM and UniKL as added
value in completion of his 2-month (September 19 - November 18)
International Attachment Program at USIM under the guidance of Emeritus
Professor Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak mooted during his tenure as USIM
Chairperson and continued even more effectively as IIUM Rector.
The take home bonus for ARMM is signing of LOI with IIUM, USIM and UniKL.
“We learned a lot of areas in Islamic Leadership, Sejahtera and Governance,
a lot of it focused on discussions on where ARMM should go and heading
forward, in terms of the education integration with our future partners.
Great amount of directions were met, which will be optimized and
taken-up at my cabinet meetings and my briefings with the Philippines
President Duterte who’s truly passionate in pushing development.
“Right now we have a lot of tourism in Mindanao but it’s primarily from local
tourists. Few international tourists go to Mindanao, although there are
certain parts that are considered not safe.
The perception is that a big part of it is unsafe and that’s why it is being shunned. However, with the recent developments of the peace process by the government making great strides with the implementation of Bangsamoro Basic Law, it seems
we’re getting much confidence among the investors,” Mujiv explained.
In accepting the invite from Governor Mujiv to visit ARMM soon, Education
Minister Dr. Maszlee said, “I would be the first to say that we should
help one another, but the way I see the growth of collaboration in
education seems to be benefiting us more.
We should share our strengths with one another. We should pull each other up. The vibrancy in ARMM should spur the growth of education and economy among the two ASEAN countries.
I think Malaysia will be able to help out and take advantage
of this education, research and training in ARMM. Let us push for more
effective action.”
