Arifin Mamat obtained his B.A (Hons) in Arabic Linguistics from the University of Muhammad V, Morocco and B.A (1st Class Hons) in Shariah from University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He obtained his postgraduate Diploma in Education and Master of Education from International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) and his Ph.d from University of Birmingham, England in Methods of Teaching Arabic. He worked as a teacher under the Ministry of Education, Malaysia before joining IIUM in 1992 as an Assistant Lecturer. He was the recipient of the Promising Researcher Award, IIUM in 2009.
