Expert Profile
Professor Najibah Mohd Zin obtained LL.B in 1988 and started her career as a lecturer in Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws soon after her graduation. She obtained her Master of Comparative Law in 1990 and pursued her doctorate in Glasgow Caledonian University, UK in 1995. As a lecturer she taught various subjects of Civil and Syariah Laws including Law of Contract, Law Torts, Land Law, Islamic Legal System, Family Laws and Shariah Procedures. At present, Prof Najibah is specializing in family related laws, and women's rights and she teaches these courses at postgraduate level and supervises research students in these related fields. Prof Najibah has gained international recognitions as examiners of theses and was invited as a guest speaker on Family Law as well as various issues relating to gender and women's rights in Malaysia.
Prof Najibah was a Visiting Fellow at the National University of Singapore and Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, University of Oxford in 2005 and 2010-2011 respectively.
Prof Najibah has written articles and chapters in book on various family law issues and Shariah related laws published by various local and international refereed journals. She has edited a few books on family and procedural law. She has been awarded a number of research grants to facilitate her research activities. She occasionally writes in local newspapers and has been given a column in the daily KOSMO on women and Shariah.
Prof Najibah serves various governmental and non-governmental agencies. She is a member of the Shariah committee in the Attorney General's Chamber; a committee member on Practice Direction Shariah Judiciary of Malaysia; member of Disciplinary Committee, Bar Council for several years; research committee with IKIM on harmonization of law; a panel of expert on Shariah law and Siyasah, Shariyyah Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka; IIUM Quad Team; Internal Audit Committee IIUM Holdings and Fellow in Centre for Women Science Studies, University Islam Malaysia. She has served Kulliyyah of Laws as Deputy Dean (Academic); Deputy Dean for Postgraduate and Research, and Head, Department of Islamic Law.
Prof Najibah is presently working as a full time professor and is a member of the Council of Professors of the University. She is involved in social activities in organizing legal literacy programmes for local community under AIKOL legal aid platform or NGOs. She is one of the advisors to AIKOL Legal Aid Clinic and Chairman of Raudhatul Sakinah Berhad, a guiding and training centre for adolescents.
