Expert Profile
Nerawi Sedu is an Assistant Professor of Communication at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Nerawi Sedu obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in Journalism in 2009 from the School of Journalism and Communication, University of Queensland, Australia. His Ph.D thesis focuses on the Islamic conceptualisation of press freedom in the context of Malaysia and it was considered to be among the few contemporary researches that focus specifically on application of Tawhidic framework in understanding press freedom.
His research works as well as courses are on media system and media practice. Besides analyzing the media system and policies from the Western perspectives, Nerawi also studies how Islam can become a foundation for understanding media system or journalism and the practices. He has presented a number of research papers at international as well as national conferences, in Malaysia and abroad. One of his research papers on the Islamic perspective of press freedom was published as a book chapter by the Athens Institute for Education and Research in 2009.
